  • Shortly before the squad was announced coach Austin MacPhee left the set-up to take a role with Scotland. He was replaced by Leicester coach, Adam Sadler. Sadler however was unable to join up with the squad following a family bereavement.
  • Stéphanie Frappart becomes the first female referee to take charge of a Northern Ireland senior international fixture.
  • This was the first time that Northern Ireland were awarded two penalties in a single match since 1964.
