Match Report:
Notes:
- The World Cup trophy, which France had won the previous summer, was paraded around Windsor Park before kick-off by 10-year-old Damien McCorry.
- Surprisingly, given the opponents were World champions, this match failed to sell out.
- Northern Ireland's new Patrick manufactured kit was used for the first time in a senior international. Previous kit suppliers Olympic Sport had had their deal cut short due to financial problems.
- A commemorative pin badge was given away with the match programme.
