Biography:
In October 2024, ahead of a UEFA Nations League double-header against Belarus and Bulgaria, Michael O'Neill found himself short on goalkeepers. Christy Pym's late call-up came out of the blue, having been an England Youth cap and linked to the Republic of Ireland through his Belfast-born grandmother.

At 29, Pym had had a long career in the English lower-leagues. He had started his career with home-town club Exeter City in League Two, where he was Player of the Year in 2018, and became a sought after talent. He moved-up a division when signed by Peterborough United, aiding them to promotion from League One in his second season. A falling-out with the Posh boss Darren Ferguson saw him sidelined early in the 2021/22 Championship campaign.

It wasn't until signing for Mansfield, initially on loan, that Pym's career moved back on track. He aided the Stags to promotion from League Two in 2024 and was held in high regard by the clubs' fans as they enjoyed a bright start to their League One campaign.
