A new San Mames stadium was constructed directly beside the original stadium. The final match at the old stadium was on 5th June 2013 with demolition beginning in the following days. The new stadium hosted its first match at the new San Mames took place on 16th September 2013, though construction wasn't officially completed until a year later.
