Biography:
The latest in a long line of Manchester United youngsters to earn elevation to the Northern Ireland squad before making their firstteam debut, Craig Cathcart has starred at various underage international levels.

In 2007 Cathcart was a member of the European Under-18 Select team that claimed the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup, defeating an African Select 10-1 on aggregate.

Cathcart impressed while on loan at Championship side, Plymouth Argyle. He was included in the Northern Ireland squad to face Italy in June 2009 but was forced to withdraw due to a knee injury.

After another loan spell with Watford, Cathcart was allowed to join Premier League new-boys Blackpool in a £500,000 deal on the eve of the 2010/11 season. A few weeks later he made his senior Northern Ireland debut against Slovenia. He was fielded at left-back, rather than his favoured central role, as a late stand-in for injured ex-Manchester United colleague, Jonny Evans. Like Evans' debut four years earlier, Cathcart put in a superb display in a backs-to-the-wall win, even getting involved in Corry Evans, another ex-United clubmate's, goal.

...

Cathcart was released by Watford in 2023 after nine years with the club. On 7th September he joined Belgian side, KV Kortrijk on a one-year contract, but just 13 days later he announced his retirement from playing. The last of his 73 Northern Ireland came as a substitute against Slovenia on the day he had joined Kortrijk, a match on which he was then withdrawn due to injury.
