Biography:
Sam Banks established himself in the Cliftonville team in 1935/36 and showed enough ability to be selected for Amateur Ireland verses Scotland. His 5 goals for Cliftonville in the 6-4 defeat of Glenavon in the League on the 26th September 1936 and his goal for Amateur Ireland against England in a 5-1 win in February 1937 led to his selection for the full International verses Wales at Wrexham on St Patrick’s Day 1937. A regular goalscorer for Cliftonville for three seasons, he scored 12 times in 1937/38 before joining Linfield in August 1938. An injury after 3 goals in 3 matches saw the end of his career.

It would be wonderful if you could share a bit more about your father, to broaden out the story of his all too short playing career or regarding his remaining 60 years. I'd also love to see pictures of any of his memorabilia or even a better image of the man himself. We do our best to do justice to every player featured on the site but sadly information is often hard to come by.
