Biography:
Vic McKinney, a skilful winger, broke into the successful Glenavon side of the early-1960s and won Amateur international honours. Transferred to Falkirk, he played a total of 62 Scottish League games in three seasons with the Bairns, all in the old Scottish First Division.
A member of the Northern Ireland Youth team that reached the final of the 1963 "Little World Cup" in England, McKinney won his only senior cap in a 2-0 defeat by West Germany as the eventual finalists warmed up for the 1966 World Cup. The following February he played in an Under-23 match against Wales, scoring twice. With the scoreline at 2-1 the match was abandoned.
Later McKinney played in South Africa, settling there with his family. He died there in 1987 when the car he was driving was struck by a tree during a storm. His son, also Victor, was also in the car and as a result of his injuries was paralysed from the neck down. He has since become an artist and disability campaigner.
