Johnny was one of the finest players to grace the Irish League. With close ball control and vision to spot an opening he was second to none. A great footballer in every sense.

A unique player with the highest skills who could turn the game with a moment of genius. I was fortunate to see him play for Glentoran in the 70s. Many memorable games, not least the Irish Cup Final 3-2 victory against Linfield in 1973 in which he scored the second goal.

Anyone any idea why he had a benefit game by Linfield?

He was badly injured in an attack and the way I read it the whole Irish League rallied round to support him.

Well done Linfield!
