Biography:
Jack Brown came to the attention of Football League scouts during a 2-2 draw between the Irish League and Welsh League in March 1923. Signed for Tranmere for the following season, most of the rest of his career was spent playing with teams in and around Wales.
Jack Brown won three Irish caps in total, the first in his favoured inside-right position while with Glenavon. He "pinched" two further caps while on Tranmere's books. Just prior to a game against England in October 1923 he was asked to shift to an unfamiliar right-wing role to make way for "Tucker" Croft. By his own admission Brown "had a brilliant game in a strange position" and Croft scored the winner in a rare success. Brown retained his place at outside-right for the Ireland's next game, though that ended in a 2-1 defeat by Wales.
