Biography:
A modern-day goalscoring midfielder, Michael O'Neill's cavalier style through the 1980s and 1990s earned comparisons with the inside-forwards of an era long passed - he also divided opinions on his overall effectiveness but his goal tally throughout much of his career cannot be overlooked.
O'Neill first entered management with Brechin City in April 2006 having previously been assistant at Cowdenbeath. He was linked to the manager's post at Dundee before taking charge of Shamrock Rovers in December 2008. He led Rovers to the 2010 League title as well as to the FAI Cup final and notable European results. The following year he took Rovers into the Europa League group stages, the first Irish club to progress that far, won the Setanta Cup and also retained the League title.
O'Neill will took charge of Northern Ireland on 1st February 2012.
