Spirit of 58

A documentary about Northern Ireland's heroic performance at the 1958 World Cup. Clackity Films present the first ever documentary on the incredible journey of the Northern Ireland football team of the 1950s who overcame all odds to transform themselves from constant also-rans to a team able to beat what seemed like an invincible English team at Wembley, beat the twice World Champions Italy to qualify for the 1958 World Cup and then come tantalisingly within reach of a semi final date with Brazil at the final stages in Sweden.. The Hereford United Connection

It is always sad when a football club "goes to the wall", and today that fate befell Hereford United. The Bulls ' most famous moment pre-dated their 31 years as a Football League side, and it was a Northern Ireland goalkeeper, Iam McFaul, who clasped helplessly as Ronnie Radford's shot for the then Southern League club helped defeat the giants of Newcastle United in the 1972 FA Cup third round.
