Biography:
William McDowell was the outstanding goalkeeper in intermediate football during the 1933/34 season. Already a junior international, during that campaign he helped Crusaders to a 3-1 Steel & Sons Cup Final win over Belfast Celtic II, collected an Intermediate Cup runners-up medal following a 0-2 final defeat by Sunnyside and was selected for Ireland's two amateur international matches. He also represented the Intermediate League against the Scottish Central League.

In 1934 McDowell joined the "new" Ballymena United and it was while at the Showgrounds that he won his third and final Amateur cap.
