Biography:
With Ulster Amateurs during the 1921/22 Sam Andrews could be found as often at full-back as at centre-forward, though it was in the latter role that he excelled. He then played briefly for Brookfield Strollers before signing with Cliftonville. He earned rapid elevation at Solitude from Cliftonville Olympic to the first eleven and in November 1922 was selected at inside-right for Ireland Amateurs against England. In 1923 he was on the move again, signing with Larne who had been newly elected to the Irish League. In October 1923 he became the first Larne player to be honoured with an Irish League representative appearance, leading the line in a 1-0 defeat by the Scottish League at Windsor Park.
