Biography:
After "the split" in Irish football there were many petty battles between the two governing associations, the original Irish FA and the new-boys, the FA of the Irish Free State. The fall-out of one such squabble rained down on three Bohemians players in November 1930. No player signed to an FAIFS club featured for an IFA representative side between the split and 1929 when Bohemians' Johnny McMahon appeared in an Amateur International against England. Although the Derry-born McMahon escaped punishment for an apparent breach of his amateur status, it was his southern-born club-mates, Jimmy Bermingham, Alec Morton and Fred Horlacher that were awarded a three month ban after several headline-making weeks in court.
