Biography:
Lee Clarke, the son of former Northern Ireland international striker Colin, began his career as a teenager with Yaxley, on the outskirts of his hometown, Peterborough. A forward like his father, he signed professional forms with Peterborough United shortly after his eighteenth birthday and made an early senior debut, against Bristol City in December 2001 in an LDV Vans Trophy match. He made just two further firstteam appearances during his three seasons at London Road and spent two loan spells at Kettering Town during 2003.
Clarke, who had been overlooked at Youth international level, was first called into the Northern Ireland Under-21 panel at the end of the 2002/03 season. He made his debut as a 70th minute substitute in a 4-1 defeat by Spain at Mourneview Park and was a regular in the squad over the following year. In April 2004 he appeared for the Under-23 side in a friendly against Serbia & Montenegro but thereafter he drifted out of the international reckoning.
In January 2004 Clarke signed for Isthmian League side, St Albans City. He scored regularly, sometimes spectacularly, from a striking role or from midfield and is among the highest scorers in the club's history. In 2005/06 his total of 26 goals aided The Friars to runners-up spot in the Conference South and promotion to the Conference National, the highest level at which they have ever played. St Albans suffered an immediate relegation back to the Conference South. Clarke was released by St Albans in April 2009 "by mutual consent". The following month he joined Welling United of the Conference South where he finished topscorer with 16 goals in his first season.
In 2013 he captained Welling to the Conference South title.
At St Noets Town he became player-coach.
