The Canada (Western FA) team in Oxford during their 1888 UK Tour
(Before the D)

* The ground of Belfast Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) FC from 1886 to 1889.

The Canada team was a team from the Western Football Association of Canada (founded in Berlin, Ontario in 1880) while the Irish Team was a selection from the County Antrim area only, all however were International players.

Canada also played matches against Distillery (won 3-2 on 3rd September), Clarence (won 3-2 on 4th September) and YMCA (drew 1-1 on 5th September) before touring Scotland and England.

This image from 1938 shows the River Lagan running through Belfast. Ormeau Park is on the right hand bank of the river with the Ormeau Cricket Ground (1867-2001) (home of North of Ireland Cricket and Rugby clubs and host of several Ireland cricket and rugby matches) on the opposite bank. The Shaftesbury Ground, which was home to Belfast YMCA from 1887-89 was in close proximity to the site of the cricket ground.
