Eddie McCracken

Barking Town (Athenian League)

Biography:
Edward McCracken was goalkeeper with Barking Town, one of the leading clubs in the Athenian League, when they reached the the 1927 Amateur Cup Final. Although they lost out to Leyton, 3-1 at the Den, McCracken had done enough to attract the attentions of the Irish selectors.

In November 1927 McCracken appeared in an impressive 1-1 amateur international draw against England in Blackpool. The following February he was the only non-Irish League player to travel with a "full" Irish side, made up of both professionals and amateurs, that travelled to play France in Paris. The match resulted in a 4-0 defeat.
