Biography: 
In February 1885 Edward Roper featured in the forward-line for Leinster as they defeated Ulster 1-0 at Cliftonville. He must have impressed, as he was selected for Ireland's next international, against England in Manchester. However, he was replaced in the team at the last-minute by George Magee of Wellington Park.

A year on and Roper gave Leinster a half-time lead over Ulster at Ballynafeigh. The hosts reversed their fortunes in the second-half, running out 7-2 winners. Roper was again selected for Ireland's opening match of the season, featuring in a 5-0 defeat by Wales.

Roper later moved to Australia. In June 1911 he was convcted of multiple counts of drunkenness. Just a few months later he died.
