Biography:
A prolific forward with Belfast Celtic and Distillery, Ned Maguire was selected to lead the line for an Ireland team weakened by the withdrawal of some of their most talented England-based talent against Scotland at Parkhead in 1907. The Scots recorded a flattering 3-0 victory as Ireland "developed a very pretty and fast forward game" but failed to capitalise on their opportunities.

Maguire had finished as a runner-up in the 1906 Irish Cup when Belfast Celtic suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Shelbourne at Dalymount Park in their first Final. That summer he moved on to Distillery, scoring 18 times as the Whites mounted challenges in both the League and City Cup - eventually slumping to third place in both competitions.
