Left-back Hughie "Rosie" McIlroy was part of the Cliftonville side that shared the 1906 Irish League title with Distillery in 1906 and a year later claimed the Irish Cup with a shock replay win over Shelbourne in Dublin.
Capped for the only time by Ireland against England at Solitude, his "home" ground, it proved a difficult day for McIlroy as England ran out 5-0 winners with three of their goals coming from the right-hand of their attack.
In September 1907 McIlroy signed for Distillery as a professional.
