Biography:
Scorer of 14 goals in Distillery’s 1898/99 Irish League Championship winning campaign, Jack Waring was rewarded for his form with an Ireland call-up. He was one of five Whites players to take to the field against England in February 1899, but it was an inauspicious day for the Irish, who finished on the end of an away record 13-2 defeat.

Waring had arrived at Distillery from Dunmurry in the summer of 1897, strengthening a forward line which had lost Giddy Baird, who had been killed in an accident on the Isle of Man, and the retiring Olphie Stanfield. Despite his first-class goalscoring return, Waring left Grosvenor for Lisburn club Hilden prior to the 1899/00 campaign.
