Biography:
Awarded a Northern Ireland 'B' Cap in a 2-1 defeat by Scotland Future in February 2003, Tommy Evans had long been on the radar of those at the Irish FA. Despite being born in Doncaster he had been capped at Youth level while on the books of Sheffield United.

After being released by the Blades he had a brief spell with Crystal Palace and loan spells at Coventry and Harrow Borough before signing with Third Division Scunthorpe. His debut for The Iron was in a League Cup tie against Everton in September 1997, a match that resulted in a 5-1 defeat. It wasn't until the 1998/99 season that he Evans established himself in the first team. He ended that campaign on a high by keeping a clean-sheet in the play-off final win over Leyton Orient.

Although relegation followed after just a season in the Second Division, Evans remained Scunthorpe's first choice keeper for six seasons. It was 2002/03, when they again made the play-offs, that Evans' efforts were rewarded with a late call-up to the Northern Ireland 'B' squad as a replacement for David Miskelly. He played the first half, conceding twice, in a defeat by Scotland Future at Firhill Park.

Knuckle problems ruled Evans out for much of the 2004/05 season and then surgery cost him his place for the opening months of the following campaign. Eventually he was released by Scunthorpe in May 2006. He joined York City after a trial period in the summer of 2006. Evans was released by York in the summer of 2008 and subsequently joined Alfreton Town of the Conference North. In a season with Boston United he helped them to promotion from the Unibond League via the play-offs in 2010 but was released that summer.
