Biography:
Young striker plucked from non-League obscurity who went on to play international football within a year. His name was linked with big moves to the likes of Everton, but he has since been troubled by injury problems and weight issues and has remained in the lower leagues.
Capped just once at full international level, as a substitute in a 5-0 defeat by Spain in 2002, McEvilly was recalled to the squad for Northern Ireland's Summer '06 US tour. Sadly a stress fracture in his foot ruled him out of the trip.
In May 2010 McEvilly scored for Barrow as they came from behind to defeat Stevenage Borough 2-1 after extra-time in the FA Trophy final at Wembley. He then signed for Sligo Rovers, making his debut against Shamrock Rovers on 2nd July, but his stay was brief as he picked a serious ankle injury and was released after just a week. In November, still returning to fitness, he re-joined Burscough, his first club.
