Biography:
Given his debut by Sammy McIlroy, Andy Smith made a huge impression in a defeat by Italy and a draw with Spain in June 2003. An Irish League sensation, he had overcome the disappointment of being released by Sheffield United to fire Glentoran to a plethora of successes.

Later Smith earned a move back to England, but in a three year spell with a number of clubs, failed to make an impact. He returned to Northern Ireland in 2007, marking his Portadown debut with a goal in a 2-1 win over Armagh.

In 2008, following Portadown's "relegation" from the new IFA Premiership Smith went AWOL, finally returning to playing with Ballymena for the 2009/10 season. In April 2011 he secured his release from Ballymena, reportedly with the intention of moving to Vietnam.

During the 2011/12 season he was playing for Union Royale Namur in the Belgian fourth tier. The following season he looked set to join French side, CSO Amneville, but the deal fell through. He returned to Northern Ireland when signed by ex-international colleague Michael Hughes for Carrick Rangers on the 30th August 2012, but a day later it was announced that the deal had been cancelled as he sought trials with clubs in France and Belgium.

Having spent the summer of 2013 training at the Oval Smith looked set to re-sign for the Glens, however a deal never materialised. Come January he signed for Crusaders.

In early 2015 Smith was appointed to the coaching staff at Portuguese club Setubal by his ex-Sheffield United teammate Bruno Ribeiro. Subsequently the pair worked together at Ludogorets in Bulgaria (from July 2015) and at Port Vale (from July 2016).
