Biography:
William Dalton was with YMCA when he made his Ireland debut at the age of just 18 years and 8 days. 24 minutes into the match with Scotland he scored to make it 2-4 before the Scots really kicked into gear and finish 10-2 victors. That goal leaves Dalton fourth on the all-time list of (Northern) Ireland's youngest goalscorers.
A move to Linfield brought Dalton a plethora of medals, including a success in the first ever Irish League Championship. He also played in two Irish Cup victories, scoring in the 1892 7-0 win over the Black Watch Regiment.
In the February 1891 Home Nations meeting with Wales, Dalton scored the equaliser that set Ireland on the way to a 7-2 victory - only their second ever. As well as his eleven Ireland Caps, Dalton also played and scored against a Canadian touring team in September 1891, and represented the Irish League when they faced their English counterparts for the first time February 1894.
William Dalton would later emigrated to Canada with his wife Kathryn, and they are buried in Norway Cemetary in Toronto, Ontario.
