Biography:
Bertie Nixon came to prominence with the all-conquering Ballyclare Comrades side of 1960/61, claiming all the available intermediate honours and reached the Irish Cup semi-final.
He moved on to Glenavon where he added Amateur caps to his collection, appearing in a famous win over England.
In the 1970s he coached Linfield Swifts, even taking the opportunity to take the field during a player shortage.
His father Tommy had been a champion bowler, and with his football days behind him, Bertie also took up the game. In the late 1980s/early 1990s he represented Ireland.
Bertie Nixon passed away suddenly but peacefully in November 2024.

Although maybe not as well known as senior internationals, Bertie was a Youth & Amateur International footballer and also represented Ireland at Bowls.
