Biography:
In September 1924, while an amateur with Cliftonville, Ralph Lynas was selected for the "experimental" Ireland that took part in their first home international against non-British opposition. The visiting South Africa side, in their first ever international match, ran out 2-1 victors.

Lynas was further honoured with selection for the Ireland Amateur side that hosted England at Solitude two months later. At the end of that season he played in a third representative match, lining out with the Amateur international team against the Irish League in a match played under the newly introduced off-side rules.

In the summer of 1925 Lynas transferred to England, signing for Second Division Nottingham Forest. Inevitably nicknamed "Paddy" at the City Ground, he made his debut in a 0-0 draw with Darlington on the opening day of the season, but struggled to hold down the inside-left berth. He scored just twice in Forest colours, both at home and both during April 1926, in a 1-0 win over Clapton Orient and in a 4-0 win over Hull City.

In 1927 Lynas returned to Ireland, signing with Irish Cup holders, Ards. Early good form, including a hattrick against Queen's Island, brought inter-league recognition and a season's total of 19 goals.
