John McShane

Name: John McShane Born: 6 October 1876, Belfast Died: 5 October 1958, Belfast (age 81) Position: Half-Back Representative Honours: Ireland: 4 Caps (1899-1900) . Club Honours: (with Cliftonville) Irish Cup Winner 1899/00 . Club Career: Cliftonville Biography: Born to John J. (a builder/surveyor) and Selina (nee Broadbent) of 67 Eagleson Place/Duncairn Street. A four-time capped Cliftonville half-back, John McShane was given the honour of captaining Ireland against Scotland in 1900. That match, like the other three he played in an Irish shirt, finished in defeat. At club level McShane was part of of the Cliftonville side that defeated Bohemians in the 1900 Irish Cup Final. McShane worked Assistant Traffic Superintendent on the railways and was a foundation member of the Belfast Cotton & Rayon Agents Association.
