Biography:
A founder member of Cliftonville, James Buckle was an accountant at Methodist College, Belfast.

He was unavailable to play in the Irish FA's trial match on 11th February 1882 that was used select a team to represent Ireland against England and Wales on the 18th and 25th February. The left wing positions were to be filled by Alex Dill of Knock and John Waring of Cliftonville. However, as a result of a misdemeanour by Waring, James Buckle was named as his replacement. James duly played against England but had to withdraw from the Wales match due to work commitments. It is rumoured that he scored a goal in the England match which was disallowed.

Buckle tragically died from Typhoid Fever aged 30.

However Henry (Harry) Buckle and his son Bobby Buckle were the first father and son to have played together in an all Ireland I think.??..

Only two Buckles were capped by Ireland at senior international level, James and Henry. To my knowledge no other Buckles were capped by Ireland (north or south). Neither can I find a record of a Buckle winning Amateur, Junior or Schools recognition. Can you provide any info on Bobby Buckle's career so it can be looked into?

Yes you're right however Harry's son Bobby Buckle was also a fine footballer as was his grandson Dave Barry.
Dave Barry's FAI Cup triumph in 1998 carried on a family tradition as his grandfather Bobby Buckle won it in 1934 with Cork F.C. and his father Harry Buckle had won it with Fordsons F.C. in 1926.

Hi, what is the source for Waring committing a misdemeanour?
Thanks.
