Biography:
When New York Red Bulls' midfielder Jonny Steele was called into the Northern Ireland squad in November 2013 he became the first ever MLS-based player to receive such an honour. Indeed, no player featuring with a US club had been called-up since the days of the NASL, three decades earlier.

Formerly a Wolves Academy player, Steele initially moved to the USA for a trial with Colin Clarke's Dallas Burn in 2003. He spent close to a decade, a short spell back home with Ballymena aside, plying his trade at various levels in North American soccer before finally arriving in the top-tier MLS with Real Salt Lake in 2012. He was released by RSL after a single season and looked likely to move closer to home, training with Cliftonville and coming close to a deal with an unidentified English League Two side.

Steele remained in the USA to sign for MLS power-houses, New York Red Bulls where he played alongside former English Premier League stars, Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill. In his first season he assisted the team to Eastern Conference championship and, as the MLS team with the overall best regular season record, to the Supporters' Shield. In all he scored five goals, mostly while playing as a left-sided mifielder. Surprisingly the Red Bulls lost out to Houston Dynamo in the play-offs.

A member of the Northern Ireland Under-19 side that played in the 2005 European Championship finals as hosts, Steele also featured as the team finished as runners-up in that years' Milk Cup, scoring in a 4-2 final defeat by the USA. His form in the MLS throughout the 2013 season had seen him tipped for a call-up to the senior Northern Ireland squad, but it was only after the Red Bulls' exit from the play-offs that Michael O'Neill was willing to include him in the squad to face Turkey in a November friendly.

On his first international call-up Steele noted: "Playing for your country is an honour and it's something I've always wanted to do and if I get that opportunity, I'm going to be hungrier than I've ever been."

Having added further caps to his name during Northern Ireland's 2014 summer tour of South America, Steele was on the move again in July 2014, moving to play in Australia with Newcastle Jets.

Biography:
In the early 2000s Wolves had a strong Northern Ireland contingent among their youth ranks - Sammy Clingan, Mark Clyde, Andrew Dickson and Mark McChrystal were all on the fringes of the senior team at Molineux.

A strapping left-sided centre-back, McChrystal had won Schoolboy caps while at St. Columb's College in his native Derry and added Under-18 honours while with Wolves. He was released by Wolves in 2003 and returned home to join Derry City. He initially struggled to make an impact at the Brandywell and for the start of the 2003/04 season made the short move to Institute on a three month loan. He played six times at right-back for Stute before the loan spell was cut short by injury.

Back at Derry, McChrystal slowly established himself in the firstteam squad, filling in at left- or right-back as well as in his preferred central defencive role. He established himself in the Northern Ireland Under-21 team, becoming captain, even when not assured of a starting place with his club side.

McChrystal was released by Derry in December 2006 having been identified as surplus to requirements. Within a few weeks he was playing for Partick Thistle in the Scottish First Division. He made his Jags debut in a 2-0 defeat by Clyde on 2nd January 2007 and was a regular through to the end of the season. He scored his only goal in a 4-3 defeat by Queen of the South as Partick almost came back from 4-0 down. McChrystal was released at the end of that season by new manager, Ian McCall.

McChrystal returned to Derry City in August 2007 and the following year he collected his first major honours, a winner's medal in the League Cup as Wexford Youths were routed 6-1 and a runners-up medal following an FAI Cup Final penalty shoot-out defeat by Bohemians.

In September 2009 McChrystal, unhappy with his limited firstteam chances after returning from a broken cheekbone, negotiated an early release from his Derry contract, the Candystripes being only too happy to offload players as their financial straits became clearer. He joined Huddersfield on trial but after three weeks he was unable to secure the hoped for move. There followed another trial with Crewe which proved equally fruitless before he joined Lisburn Distillery on a short-term deal.

McChrystal returned to Derry City in January 2010 as the demoted side gained an instant return to the League of Ireland Premier Division. In January 2011 he joined Tranmere Rovers on a six-month deal.

Biography:
Johnny Gorman spent a year with Man City and six with Man United as a teenager before joining Wolves' academy. Although born in England, his mother was originally from Coleraine. His Irish lineage was originally taken advantage of by the FAI and he played for the Republic of Ireland at Under-16 level before he switched allegiances to Northern Ireland for whom he played at Under-16 and Under-17 level.

Called into the Northern Ireland squad that toured North and South America in 2010 despite having not yet made his firstteam debut for Wolves, and indeed played just half-an-hour of reserve team football, Gorman started both matches of the tour. He had had to take time off from studying for his A Levels to take part and at the age of just 17 years and 212 days he was the seventh youngest Northern Ireland debutant ever. Amazingly, just two months earlier he had played for Repton School in the ISFA Boodles Cup final defeat by Shrewsbury School.

Gorman retained his place in the senior squad for the August friendly against Montenegro having a month earlier starred for the Under-20s as they reached the Milk Cup final. He made his senior competitive debut as a late substitute in a Euro qualifier against Slovenia in September 2010. His continued inclusion in the Northern Ireland squad ahead of more experienced players for the remainder of Nigel Worthington's tenure as manager was questioned by many.

On 24th March 2012 Gorman made his Wolves senior debut, coming off the bench late on in a 2-1 Premier League defeat by Norwich. By the time of his first league appearance he had already been awarded nine full caps.

Gorman joined Plymouth on loan for the first half of the 2012/13 season, though the move was cut short in September as Wolves felt he was not getting sufficient first team experience. Later in the season he played on loan in the Conference National for Macclesfield and Cambridge United. With Wolves relegated from the Championship, Gorman was released in a mass clear-out.

After a successful trial Gorman joined Leyton Orient for the 2013/14 season. He failed to make an impact at Orient and was released after just seven appearances as the club earned promotion to the Championship via the play-offs. He dropped into non-league football, briefly featuring for Southport before helping Barrow to the 2014/15 Conference North title. He remained at that level (renamed National League North), signing for Telford in 2015.

Biography:
Neil Masters was an incredibly gifted player, who had it not been for a succession of injuries would surely have won senior international recognition. As it was he had to make do with a Youth cap and brief inclusion in the Northern Ireland squad under Bryan Hamilton in August 1995.

A left-back, possessing a fierce shot and superb crossing ability, Masters was one of a number of talented youngsters who emerged at Bournemouth under Harry Redknapp. Described as "true class" and "the best left-back the club ever had", his name was linked with moves to Blackburn, Spurs and Arsenal, but it was Wolves that claimed his signature in December 1993, in a deal that could have netted the Cherries over £600,000 had things gone differently. As it was he was quickly beset by leg and back injuries, limiting him to just nine games in his first season and a half at Molineux. When ex-England boss Graham Taylor arrived at the club in 1994 he quickly grew tired of the perennially injured youngster, accused him of malingering and placed him on the transfer-list at the end of the 1994/95 season.

Masters' reaction, to what many regarded as a crass and insensitive action by Taylor, was to work hard at regaining full fitness through the summer of 1995. So impressed was Taylor by Masters' pre-season displays that he started Wolves' opening three matches of the 1995/96 season. It was at this point that Bryan Hamilton saw fit to award Masters his first call-up to the senior squad for the European Championship Qualifier against Portugal. In a much changed panel from the previous 2-1 defeat by Latvia, it was previous squad regular Steve Morrow who made way. Masters however picked-up an injury against Sunderland on 26 August 1995 (which turned out to be his final appearance in Wolves colours) that cost him the opportunity of international recognition. Hamilton was forced to recall Morrow, who started in a 1-1 draw in Lisbon.

In March 1997, as Masters began to return to fitness, he made a cut-price move to Gillingham. He had to wait until 9 August to make his Gills debut, in a 0-0 draw with Preston, but was soon struck down by injuries once again. The eleven appearances he made for the club, at left-back or left-wing-back, gave Gillingham's fans scant opportunity to see Masters at his best, and in March 1999, having not played in ten months, his contract was cancelled.

Still Masters battled on. He sought medical treatment from specialists and spiritual healers from all over the world and actually returned to Gillingham on trial in October 2000. There was also talk of him moving to Glenavon, but eventually he moved to Norway with Moss FK where he played two seasons.

A free-scoring inside-left, Hugh Meek leapt from a struggling Cliftonville to a strong Glentoran with consummate ease in 1920. His first season at the Oval brought twelve goals in eight League games and 22 in all competitions as the Glens brought home a trophy treble – League, Cup and Co. Antrim Shield. He was honoured with selection for the Irish League’s match against the Scottish League at Ibrox in January 1921, and was joined by seven other Glens players in a 3-0 defeat.

Although Linfield claimed a clean-sweep in 1921/22, leaving Meek and Glentoran trophy-less, he scored the goal that condemned the Blues to their only competitive defeat of the season - a 1-0 Gold Cup defeat on 17 April. At the end of the season he was selected for the Irish FA’s tour of Norway and he played at outside-left in a 3-2 inter-association win over a Norwegian FA eleven in Kristiania (now Oslo).

It wasn’t until the 1924/25 campaign that Meek and Glentoran really hit their stride again. He scored 19 goals in 39 appearances, including the winner against Belfast Celtic in the Co. Antrim Shield Final, as the Glens won another “treble”, reclaiming the Irish League and also taking the Charity Cup from Celtic. It could so easily have a trophy quintet, but Distillery defeated the East-Belfastmen 2-1 in the Irish Cup Final and early the following season Queen’s Island claimed the held-over City Cup after three test matches.

Meek moved to England with Division Two Wolves in late-November 1925 and he made his debut on Christmas Day in a 2-1 win at Oldham. He lasted just six-months with the midland club, as they again failed in their long battle to regain top-flight status. There followed a season in the Free State League with Shelbourne, who narrowly missed out on the title, before he returned to Belfast to join Distillery. With the Whites Meek had the honour of scoring the first goal on the club’s return to Grosvenor, a penalty in a 2-0 win over Ards on 12 November 1927. It was one of eleven goals he scored in the 1927/28 campaign.
