Biography:
When New York Red Bulls' midfielder Jonny Steele was called into the Northern Ireland squad in November 2013 he became the first ever MLS-based player to receive such an honour. Indeed, no player featuring with a US club had been called-up since the days of the NASL, three decades earlier.
Formerly a Wolves Academy player, Steele initially moved to the USA for a trial with Colin Clarke's Dallas Burn in 2003. He spent close to a decade, a short spell back home with Ballymena aside, plying his trade at various levels in North American soccer before finally arriving in the top-tier MLS with Real Salt Lake in 2012. He was released by RSL after a single season and looked likely to move closer to home, training with Cliftonville and coming close to a deal with an unidentified English League Two side.
Steele remained in the USA to sign for MLS power-houses, New York Red Bulls where he played alongside former English Premier League stars, Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill. In his first season he assisted the team to Eastern Conference championship and, as the MLS team with the overall best regular season record, to the Supporters' Shield. In all he scored five goals, mostly while playing as a left-sided mifielder. Surprisingly the Red Bulls lost out to Houston Dynamo in the play-offs.
A member of the Northern Ireland Under-19 side that played in the 2005 European Championship finals as hosts, Steele also featured as the team finished as runners-up in that years' Milk Cup, scoring in a 4-2 final defeat by the USA. His form in the MLS throughout the 2013 season had seen him tipped for a call-up to the senior Northern Ireland squad, but it was only after the Red Bulls' exit from the play-offs that Michael O'Neill was willing to include him in the squad to face Turkey in a November friendly.
On his first international call-up Steele noted: "Playing for your country is an honour and it's something I've always wanted to do and if I get that opportunity, I'm going to be hungrier than I've ever been."
Having added further caps to his name during Northern Ireland's 2014 summer tour of South America, Steele was on the move again in July 2014, moving to play in Australia with Newcastle Jets.

Biography:
A member of QPR's Elite Developmeent squad, Jamie Sendles-White arrived in the Northern Ireland underage set-up during the 2012/13 season having previously been involved in the Republic of Ireland Under-17 team.
Having claimed three Northern Ireland Under-19 caps and made his Under-21 debut against Cyprus, Sendles-White was part of the side that finished runners-up 2013 Milk Cup.
Sendles-White joined Colchester United on a months loan early in the 2013/14 season, though he never made it beyond their substitutes' bench. During the 2014 pre-season he played several friendly matches for QPR and signed a one-year contract extension. QPR made him available for loan as they sought to give him firstteam experience. Following a trial with Swindon he joined Mansfield on a one-month deal in October.
Sendles-White was released following QPR's relegation from the Premier League in 2015 without having made a firstteam appearance. He then joined Scottish Premiership side, Hamilton Academical on a short term deal, but was released in January 2016 after just seven appearances. He subsequently joined Swindon where he had had two previous unsuccessful trials.

Biography:
Biography:
Bangor's regular left-half during the early 1960s, Dickie Sands' good form earned him selection for Northern Ireland Amateurs in 1964. After a season with Crusaders he joined Ards where he enjoyed the most successful period of his career. He was Player of the Year in 1966/67 and a member of the Ards team that won the 1969 Irish Cup - he came off the bench to help set-up Billy McAvoy's equaliser in a final replay 4-2 extra-time win over Distillery. The following season he was again substitute in both Cup Winners' Cup matches against Roma. During his time at Castlereagh Park Sands added two further Amateur caps to his collection.

Distillery ............. 1924
Biography:
Brother of Andy Sloan, William Sloan was a dashing player, not scientific or possessing a bundle of tricks, but offering a surety and honesty in his play that proved a useful asset in any team for which he played.
"... big and strong and is ruthless (without being unfair) in destroying the most carefully laid plans of an opposition vanguard. He tackles with undying determination and does not neglect to use his weight, but with the utmost fairness. Perhaps he is stronger in defence than attack, but just the manner in which he changes the point of attack by throwing the ball to the wings often has the opposition in a tangle. Sloan is one of those men commonly described as "a ninety-minute player". Always in the thick of the fight, he spares no energy in his efforts to bring his team success."
Prior to breaking into senior football with Distillery, Sloan had appeared for Barn Reserves. He joined the Whites for the 1924/25 season and after initially appearing for the Seconds, he was given a first team opportunity due to an injury to the regular centre-half and starred in the Distillery side that claimed the "double" of Irish Cup and Gold Cup. He was also selected for Ireland Amateurs in an end-of-season representative match against the Irish League and again for an international against England the following season. His Distillery chances were cut short however as regular centre-half Fred Bell returned to fitness.

Biography:
Steve Snodden first made headlines while playing as a centre-forward for the Royal Army Ordnance Corp for scoring five goals in a single match and he was described as the mainstay of the military eleven. While stationed in Didcot he played for Reading Reserves and several senior clubs in Berks and Bucks were anxious to claim his signature.
On his return to his native Carrickfergus Snodden signed with Cliftonville and then, due to the restrictions of his army service, as an amateur to Linfield. At Windsor he started as a regular across the forward line but on occasion filled in at centre-half. It was in his favoured inside-right position that he was selected for the Amateur Ireland team that faced England at Solitude in November 1926 and a year later, when he played for the Irish League against the Football League in Newcastle, he appeared as a right-half.

Dick Shaw had the honour of becoming the first Ballymena player to secure a senior representative honour. At the time of the amateur international match against England in November 1928 the County Antrim team had been only a matter of months in senior football, and Shaw just a few weeks.
..
Ballymena, the Irish League's "babes", surprisingly coaxed Shaw from Willowfield, the giants of the intermediate scene, early in their debut 1928/29 season. A light-weight outside-left, "fleet of foot with good control [who could] centre the ball with the best", Shaw's early performances made him hard to ignore for the Amateur Ireland selectors.
..
Prior to arriving at Ballymena Shaw had already tasted significant success. While with St Nicholas in 1926/27 he was selected for the North of Ireland Combination's representative match against the Scottish Western League and the same season his club finished as the Combination's Third Division champions.
..
The following year Shaw was part of the Willowfield side that shocked Irish football by winning the Irish Cup final against Larne. That same season they also claimed the Intermediate League, Intermediate Cup and Steel Cup as well as finishing as runners-up in the McElroy Cup.
..
Perhaps lacking the "weight to stand a big amount of buffeting" Shaw lasted only a short time in the Ballymena first eleven, losing his place to ex-Scotland international Joe Cassidy and so missing out on another Irish Cup winner's medal.
Shaw then returned to Willowfield for the 1929/30 season, and was selected for the Ireland Junior team that drew 2-2 with Scotland at Grosvenor Park. He re-signed for Ballymena in August 1930, but once again struggled to hold down a regular starting place and again missed out on an Irish Cup final appearance as Ballymena lost to Linfield in their third successive appearance in the show-piece match.
Shaw's Irish League career appears to have been brought to a close in 1931 as he was not retained by Ballymena.
