One of the Lowry clan that also included B international Tommy, Hugh was a prolific goalscorer from inside-left. His goals initially brought a degree of respectability to Bangor before firing Ards to the Irish League title. He scored 30 goals as the Gibson Cup arrived at Castlereagh Park for the first time. The following season he became the first Irish League player to score in European competition as Ards lost 4-1 to French giants, Rheims in the Champions' Cup.
Invited to move to England by several clubs, including Liverpool, Huddersfield and Bristol City, in the days of the maximum wage it more sense for Lowry to remain a part-time player alongside a steady job. He was forced to quit playing at the age of 26 after tearing his right knee ligaments against Portadown.

Biography:
The younger brother of two Irish League players, Albert Lyness played the game at junior level in his native Lisburn before joining Intermediate League side, Dunmurry. It was after joining the army that Corporal Lyness became a surprise inclusion for Amateur Ireland, and he did not disappoint, being "one of the stars of the side". Possessor of "perfect ball control" and a side step that enabled him to carry the ball past defenders with ease, he was also a "deadly shot", able to place the ball "where the goalkeeper cannot get even his fingers to them."
After leaving the army, Lyness' signature was widely sought by several clubs, but his destination always seemed certain to be Ibrox. He made his Rangers début in a 2-1 defeat at Kilmarnock on 12th March 1938, and scored his first goal eleven days later with a penalty against Arbroath. Those were his only games that season and he did not return to the team until the following January when he scored in consecutive wins over Partick and Arbroath as the Bears marched to the Scottish League title. He made his final firstteam appearance, scoring from the penalty spot, in a shock 4-1 defeat by eventual winners Clyde in a Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox.
After playing a season with Linfield, Lyness joined Distillery in the summer of 1940. He marked his Whites début with a goal in a 1-1 draw with Glentoran on 20th August on his way to 25 goals for the season. In five seasons he played 114 games and scored 42 goals but claimed only one medal, as runner-up in the 1940/41 Co. Antrim Shield. Later Lyness coached Distillery IIs.

Biography:
"No safer pair of hands ever held a ball, and it will be an awkward shot indeed if Lillie does not take it as a matter of course and deal with it after the manner of a master."
Acclaimed for his coolness and anticipation, Lillie broke into the Cliftonville firstteam towards the end of the 1934/35 season and, although still comparatively young, established himself for the following campaign. He was rewarded with two Amateur caps as the season drew to a close.
Early in 1936/37 Lillie arrived at Glentoran who were suffering something of a goalkeeping crisis. Indeed, he was just one of four players who were tried between the sticks by the Glens as they slumped to a disappointing mid-table league position.

Biography:
A goalscoring forward, Caolan Lavery had represented Canada at youth level, appearing in the 2009 CONCACAF Under-17 Qualification Tournament in Mexico, before electing to play for the country of his parents' birth, Northern Ireland. He played for a number of teams in Canada before signing youth forms with Ipswich as a 16 year-old. Among his teammates at Portman Road were Rory McKeown and Josh Carson, and the trio appeared together for Northern Ireland Under-19s, including in the run to the 2011 Milk Cup final. That summer he attracted the interest of Tottenham, but an injury scuppered any potential move. He was offered a six-month professional contract by Ipswich in October 2011 but rejected it as he was unhappy with the terms and left Portman Road behind. In the following weeks he was linked with a move to Bradford and went on trial at Leicester. After further interest from a number of other clubs, including Sunderland and Kilmarnock, Lavery joined Sheffield Wednesday's development squad in the summer of 2012. He was an unused substitute for several of the Owls' early season matches but it wasn't until a mid-season loan at Southend United that he made his senior debut, as a substitute, in a 1-0 win over Oxford. After four appearances, all from the bench, Lavery's loan spell was cut short by injury. He made his Wednesday debut early in the following season, again as a substitute, in a 2-1 home defeat by Burnley. He remained a match-day regular at Hillsborough while continuing to find the net for the reserves until loaned out to Plymouth Argyle in an effort to give him more intense firstteam experience. He netted his first senior goal in a 2-1 win for Argyle over Bury on 21 December 2013 and by the time he returned to Hillsborough he had scored three times in eight games.
Back at Wednesday in January 2014, Lavery came off the bench late on to score twice, his first goals for the club, in a 6-0 win over Leeds. He scored another brace in a 4-1 win over Birmingham in March. He was considered for Northern Ireland's summer tour to South America but was unable to attend due to a family wedding. Hopes of continuing his good form unto the 2014/15 season were scuppered as he suffered a cruciate injury in pre-season. After a brief mid-season loan spell with Chesterfield, Lavery re-established himself in the Owls' first team and earned a first official call-up to the Northern Ireland squad for the end-of-season games against Qatar and Romania. He remained an unused sub for both matches.
Lavery struggled to re-establish himself in the Wednesday team early in the 2015/16 season and he joined Portsmouth on a three-month loan deal. On his return to Hillsborough he was unable to agree a new deal and as his contract ran out he was free to talk to other clubs. After being linked with a permanent move to Portsmouth he eventually joined Wednesday's rivals, Sheffield United for an undisclosed compensation fee.

Biography:
A big central defender, Kris Lindsay made his firstteam debut for Portadown just days after his sixteenth birthday in a Mid Ulster Cup game against Armagh City in February 2000. He had to wait over a year for his first Irish League appearance as he came on as a substitute in a 3-3 derby game against Glenavon in May 2001.
A regular in the Northern Ireland Under-19 then Under-21 squads throughout his time at Shamrock Park, Lindsay never established himself in the Ports' first eleven and he left for Larne in search of regular football. At Inver Park he developed quickly, his maturity earning him the club captaincy and, after several years on the fringe of the squad, an Under-21 cap during a tour of Israel.
In the summer of 2006 Lindsay was hot property and it seemed he would return to Portadown as Ronnie McFall tried to rectify his earlier mistake. Instead, Lindsay joined Linfield where he had to serve a lengthy apprenticeship with the Swifts. He has also suffered with injuries since arriving at Windsor Park, but was included in David Jeffrey's Under-23 squad for Northern Ireland's entry into the inaugural International Challenge Trophy.
Lindsay joined Glenavon on loan in January 2011 as he attempted to prove his fitness. Unable to convince Linfield of his fitness, he made the Glenavon move permanent that summer. In June 2017 he became player/first team coach.

Biography:
A "strong, hustling" back with "plenty of height and weight", Ernest Leckey was a whole-hearted player who gave "the impression that he enjoys every minute of the game."
Leckey first made his mark as right-half with the Ballymena-based Summerfield team where he gained the attentions of Coleraine for his "promising work". He was awarded an early trial with the Bannsiders, making his senior debut against Newry Town in the last game of the 1930/31 season. Having showed suitable "temperament and ability" Leckey was signed on by the Coleraine management. While waiting for another chance in the Irish League, Leckey turned out with Kilrea in summer football and Linfield Swifts until re-called by Coleraine following an injury to their regular right-half in September 1931. He grasped the opportunity with both hands: "ever a trier, and with commendable pluck will pit his skill against that of the cleverest wing." By the end of his first season as an Irish League regular he was being talked of as a potential amateur cap and one set for "higher honours". It was only after joining Cliftonville that Leckey was to make the step up to the amateur international scene, playing at centre-half in both of Ireland's games during 1934, scoring the final goal in a 4-1 win over Scotland having trailed at half-time.
