Biography:
Josh McQuoid's most impressive performance in a green shirt to date was a two goal salvo in an Under-21 international against Scotland.

A hattrick for Bournemouth against Tranmere in the FA Cup saw McQuoid called into the Northern Ireland squad as a late inclusion for a November 2010 friendly against Morocco. A week later he scored another hattrick as Bournemouth defeated Walsall 3-0. He then made his international debut as a half-time substitute against the Africans, and it was a foul on him that earned Northern Ireland a late penalty from which they equalised.

On 25th November 2010 McQuoid joined Millwall on an initial loan which became a permanent move valued at around £600,000 when the transfer window opened the following January.
He failed to impress at the New Den and joined Burnley mid-way through the following season as striking cover. He was then allowed to return to Bournemouth on a three year deal in exchange for Scott Malone.

McQuoid made a rapid return to the Championship as Bournemouth were promoted as League One runners-up. Having struggled to make the Cherries side at the higher level, mainly due to injury, McQuoid joined Peterborough on loan and scored the opener as the Posh defeated Chesterfield in the 2014 Johnstone's Paint Trophy final at Wembley.

Prior to the start of the 2014/15 season McQuoid joined Coventry on a loan deal through to January.

Biography:
Left-winger Jimmy McLaughlin burst on to the Irish League scene as a sixteen year-old in 1957/58, scoring on his début against Crusaders and top-scoring for Derry City with sixteen goals in his first campaign, marking himself as “star material”. In the summer of 1958 he signed apprentice forms with Birmingham City, netting Derry a “satisfactory” £4,000 fee in the process. It wasn’t until a move to Shrewsbury Town two years later that McLaughlin was given his League debut. His adaptability within the forward line meant he slotted in comfortably at centre-forward and inside-forward, as well as his preferred role on the wing.

A return of twenty-plus goals in each of his first two seasons with the Shrews brought McLaughlin to the attentions of Northern Ireland boss, Peter Doherty, who installed him as replacement for another goalscoring outside-left, Peter McParland. He scored on his international debut against Scotland in October 1961, but no doubt any elation was tempered by the 1-6 defeat. A brace on his second international appearance against Greece was the first of two international ‘doubles’. The second, against England in 1964, was during a remarkable match in which the English romped into a 4-0 half-time lead thanks to a Jimmy Greaves hattrick. In the second-half the Irish rallied, giving England a real fright by taking the scoreline to 4-3, McLaughlin’s two-goal haul all the more impressive due to a severe shoulder injury.

In May 1963 Division Two Swansea splashed a club-record £16,000 on McLaughlin’s signature. His first campaign at the Vetch Field was so close to both a dream and a nightmare. In the FA Cup Swansea defeated Stoke and Liverpool on the way to the semi-final, where they met Preston North End at Villa Park. McLaughlin scored and hit the wood-work three times, but Preston won through to Wembley courtesy of a controversial penalty and a freak goal by centre-half Tony Singleton, scored from the half-way line. In the League the Swans finished just a point above relegation to Division Three.

McLaughlin’s time with Swansea continued in an up-and-down fashion. In 1965 Swansea succumbed to relegation, but in the following year he won his first senior honour, Chester defeated 2-1 in the Welsh Cup Final. That season he also scored twenty League goals and won his twelfth and final Northern Ireland cap in a 4-1 win over Wales. In addition he was capped as a Youth and twice at Under-23 level, scoring on each of his appearances against Wales.

A short stay at Peterborough in 1967 preceded McLaughlin’s return to Shrewsbury. In his first campaign back at Gay Meadow the Shrews just missed out on promotion from Division Three, finishing third. Thereafter the club wallowed in the bottom half of Division Three, without really flirting too closely with relegation. He returned to a cash-strapped Swansea (by then renamed ‘Swansea City’) in November 1972. Managed by ex-international colleague Harry Gregg, McLaughlin was appointed player-coach. His experience could not help save the Swans from relegation to Division Four, and that was where he played his 461st and final League game, in a 3-1 defeat by Doncaster on 3 November 1973.

McLaughlin remained at the Vetch Field, also filling the role of club secretary, until his appointment as Dundalk player-manager in November 1974. There began a twenty-five year management career in which he became the most successful boss in League of Ireland history. With Dundalk (twice), Shamrock Rovers, Derry City and Drogheda United he won seven League titles, six FAI Cups, four League Cups and a promotion from Division One, plus Leinster Cups, Presidents Cups and North-West Cups. He also took charge of the League of Ireland representative team and the Irish Olympic side, before retiring in May 1999.

McLaughlin is helped off by trainer Jimmy
McCune and his England counterpart Harold
Shepherdson after breaking two fingers of his
left hand. He returned to score two goals in a
dramatic second half at Windsor Park where
England won 4-3 in October 1964.

Biography:
A product of the West Ham youth set-up that gave England the likes of Carrick, Cole and Defoe; Grant McCann had few opportunities at Upton Park. He spent time on loan at a number of clubs before making an impact with Cheltenham during the 2000/01 season. Although his time at Whaddon Road began with him in his favoured left-midfield role, McCann was used for much of the campaign as an emergency left-back – a position he would go on to fulfil on a number of occasions for Northern Ireland.

A regular for Northern Ireland’s Under-21 side for nearly two years, McCann’s impressive left-foot brought him three goals and an early promotion to the Full international set-up. A regular in the Northern Ireland squad throughout the second half of Sammy McIlroy’s managerial reign, he normally found himself on the bench or on the left of defence, McCann seemingly dropped from the reckoning under Lawrie Sanchez. He was given a chance again with his first start in three years in a friendly against Finland in August 2006 and scored his first international goal, surprisingly with his head, against Liechtenstein in March 2007.

At club level McCann made a permanent move to Cheltenham in January 2003 for £50,000. He helped the Robins to promotion from League Two via the play-offs in 2006. The following November he joined Championship Barnsley, initially on loan, making a £100,000 permanent move when the transfer window opened in January. A year later he moved on to Scunthorpe for a six-figure undisclosed fee. In April 2009 he played for Scunthorpe in the Johnston Paint Trophy Final at Wembley. He scored a spectacular equaliser, a curler into the top corner from the edge of the box, in the closing minutes of normal time only for Luton to claim the trophy 3-2 in extra-time. Consolation arrived the following month by way of promotion to the Championship following a Wembley play-off final win over Millwall.

McCann's nine Championship goals in 2009/10 did much to save Scunthorpe from an instant return to League One. However, with his Iron contract expired, and despite interest from several other Championship sides, McCann chose to sign a three-year deal with Peterborough who had just been relegated to League One. His goals again proved key, none more-so than a free-kick in the 3-0 play-off final win over Huddersfield at Old Trafford, as The Posh achieved an instant promotion.

Following Peterborough's relegation back to League One in 2013, McCann was appointed player-coach. That August he announced that he would be taking a break from international football in order to concentrate on his dual role at club level. He also stated that he would never let Northern Ireland down if called upon to play.

In 2014 he was part of the Peterborough side that defeated 3-1 Chesterfield in the League Trophy final, putting in the corner from which Josh McQuoid scored the opener. The following season he found his playing opportunities with The Posh limited, and while he was still fulfilling his player-coach role, he felt that he would like to extend his on-field days. In January he agreed his release, and joined Linfield, the club he followed as a boy. He stayed at Windsor Park for just six weeks before returning to Peterborough as a coach. He was promoted to assistant manager for the 2015/16 season and officially announced his retirement as a player. In September 2015 he briefly acted as caretaker manager and he was permanently appointed to the managerial post in May 2016. He was sacked in February 2018 after a run of poor results.
