Biography:
A star of the Northern Ireland youth set-up, Ryan McGivern was part of the Under-19 side that defeated Chile in the 2008 Milk Cup Final. Just two weeks later he was called into the Northern Ireland squad for a match against Scotland by Nigel Worthington as cover for the injured George McCartney.

Although McGivern has yet to play a senior game for Manchester City he was a member of their 2008 FA Youth Cup winning squad and had just received his first call-up to the Under-21 squad. After the Milk Cup Worthington had said of McGivern: “I was very impressed with (him). I watched him closely — he is a good young professional with the right attitude and he is a very good player."

A surprise starter when he made his Northern Ireland debut against Scotland, McGivern's nerves showed as he received two bookings for clumsy challenges and was sent-off - the first ever Northern Ireland player to receive his marching orders on his debut. Worthington did not lose faith in the youngster and has retained him in the squad thereafter.

In October 2008 McGivern was farmed out on a month loan to Sammy McIlroy's Morecambe in order to gain firstteam experience. He made his League debut in a 2-1 defeat at Port Vale on 25 October and on 1 November he scored in a 2-0 win over Aldershot. McIlroy was disappointed when he was unable to extend McGivern's stay with The Shrimps beyond a month.

Although Manchester City manager Mark Hughes assured McGivern that he would be in his firstteam plans for the 2009/10 season, continued big-spending saw the youngster loaned out to Leicester City prior to the close of the August transfer window. The loan deal, initially set to expire in January, was extended to the end of the season and during his time with the Foxes he appeared at centre-back as well as left-back.

McGivern joined League One Walsall on a seasons loan in July 2010, however the loan deal was cut short in January as he was no longer guaranteed first team football. On 3rd February 2011 he made his Manchester City début as a second-half substitute in a convincing home win over Sunderland.

In August 2011 McGivern joined Crystal Palace on a 28 day loan. At the end of the month he joined Bristol City on loan for the remainder of the season. More impressive was a seasons loan at Hibernian, which culminated with a Scottish Cup final appearance and a permanent two-year deal. However, the following season Hibs suffered a serious mid-season collapse in form that saw them relegated from the Premiership via the play-offs, and McGivern was among those allowed to leave and he joined League One side, Port Vale.

Under Michael O'Neill's management, McGivern's international chances have been limited as initially Daniel Lafferty then Chris Brunt have been preferred for the left-back role. He appeared just twice during the successful Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, and was often not even included in squads. He also struggled for a a regular place at Port Vale and was released in the summer of 2016.

McGivern wasn't without a club for long as he signed for Shrewsbury Town in June 2016. Good early season form saw him re-called to the Northern Ireland squad, but subsequent injuries and a change of manager saw him on the periphery of the Shrews team. At the start of the 2017/18 season he was not awarded a squad number and before the close of the summer transfer window his contract was terminated by mutual consent. McGivern was without a club until agreeing a short-term deal with Northampton in November, however his contract was not extended beyond January.

Biography:
A free-scoring forward who made his name as a teenager with Portadown, Gary "Blackie" Blackledge's talents earned him a him a host of admirers and an Under-21 cap in 1978. He had the distinction of becoming Northern Ireland's first goalscorer at Under-21 level in a 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland at Dalymount Park but, despite later inclusion in the squad under Billy Bingham, he never added Full honours to his collection.

Blackledge's goalscoring form with the Ports brought him a Gold Cup Winner's medal (Cliftonville defeated 2-1 after extra-time in the November 1978 Final) and made him ripe picking for Ronnie McFall's first signing as Glentoran manager a few months later. It took a £9,000 fee to pry the twenty-year-old from Shamrock Park, but Blackledge's early form at the Oval was patchy and he struggled to win over the club's fans.

Still, after that difficult start, the goals began to flow for Blackledge. He finished as the Irish League's topscorer and was named Northern Ireland Football Writers', PFA and Glentoran player of the year in 1981 as the Gibson Cup returned to the Oval after a four-year absence. There were two appearances for the Irish League (in a 1-0 defeat by the League of Ireland in 1981 and in a 3-3 draw with Yugoslav side, OFK Belgrade in 1982) and plenty more goals, but still a section of Glentoran fans weren't satisfied.

in 1982 it looked as though Blacklege would leave Glentoran behind. He had a trial at Leeds, scoring for them in a reserve match and a month later he scored twice in an impressive performance for the Glens in a 5-2 friendly defeat by the Yorkshire-club. A move to Elland Road never materialised but that summer it seemed likely that he would sign for arch-rivals, Linfield. Instead he joined French side Chaumont on loan and consequently missed out on a Glens' cup treble. He returned to the Oval after his year away and normal service was quickly resumed as he added further medals to his collection. Injuries and the emergence of other goalscoring talent however limited Blackledge's appearances in his last few seasons as a Glentoran player.

Mid-way through the 1987/88 season Blackledge returned to Mid-Ulster to sign for Glenavon. It was assumed he was all-but-finished at Irish League level, but clearly the 29 year-old Blackledge didn't think so! His goals helped fire the Lurgan Blues to one of the most successful periods in their history with perhaps his sweetest strike reserved for a 6-1 replay win over Linfield in the 1989 Budweiser Cup Final.

Once again Blackledge found himself over-shadowed by the emergence of a younger striking partnership - Ferguson and McBride - and consequently he missed out on Glenavon's 1990/91 trophy treble. On leaving Mourneview he was afforded one last day in the sun, rising from the bench to score for Crusaders in their 1992 Co. Antrim Shield Final win over Glenavon.

Towards the end of a career that brought him all the major medals the local game has to offer and five player of the month awards, Blackledge had brief spells at Carrick Rangers and with 'B' Division Harland & Wolff Welders. He had scored in excess of 300 career goals.

Biography:
Having won Youth caps, George O’Boyle started his Irish League career with Distillery, where he made 25 appearances before joining Linfield. At Linfield he developed into one of the best young players in Northern Ireland, and was voted Ulster’s Young Player of the Year in 1987, the same season as he claimed an Irish League winner’s medal. A spell with Bordeaux proved short-lived and he returned to Linfield on loan in 1988. During his season back at Windsor O'Boyle received Inter-League recognition and his first inclusions in Billy Bingham's Northern Ireland squad - however it would be another five years before he was actually capped.

O’Boyle moved to Scotland with Dunfermline in the summer of 1989. Whilst with Dunfermline he was called up by Bryan Hamilton for a Northern Ireland ‘B’ international with England, and on 10th March 1994 he scored in a 4-2 defeat at Hillsborough in Sheffield. That goal brought another call-up to the Full international squad, and he went on that summer’s trip to the USA. He won his first cap as a substitute on 3rd June against Colombia, a 2-0 defeat, and eight days later he started against Mexico in a 3-0 defeat.

The summer of 1994 also saw George O’Boyle make a tribunal-set-£200,000 move to Scottish First Division side St Johnstone as a replacement for Aberdeen bound Billy Dodds. His form over the next few seasons saw him regularly top the goalscoring charts and establish his place in the world of international football. In 1995/96, the same season that he scored 23 League goals, he was linked to a host of top Scottish sides, including Hearts, Hibs and even Rangers. His reputation was further enhanced as he came of the substitutes bench to score for Northern Ireland in a 1-1 draw with Germany in April 1996.

St Johnstone resisted all attempts to lure their top striker away, and he eventually helped them to the Scottish Premier League in the late 1990s. In 1998 O’Boyle scored his last goal in a Northern Ireland shirt as the Republic of Ireland were defeated 1-0 in a ‘B’ international in Dublin on 11th February. Regular appearances from the bench during Lawrie McMenemy’s first year in charge yielded little joy and as injuries started to plague O’Boyle he made his final appearance, again from the bench, against Finland on 10th October 1998.

Injury problems, including a cruciate ligament problem put him out of action for much of 1999 and 2000, but it was his off-the-field antics that drew the most attention. In January 2001 St Johnstone sacked George O’Boyle after being found guilty of gross misconduct. It followed allegations that, along with Saints team-mate Kevin Thomas, he had been seen taking cocaine in a Perth bar.

On leaving St Johnstone O’Boyle started to train with Raith Rovers, signing a short-term contract in July 2001. He failed to make an impact at Raith and was released that October. Four goals in six competitive appearances during a month with Brechin City pre-empted a move to Queen of the South. His three goals in seven League games for the Doonhamers, before injury ended his season in February, helped them claim the Scottish Second Division Championship in 2002. A double of sorts was claimed as Brechin won the Third Division title.
Like so many local players based in the mainland, O’Boyle returned to the Irish League during the summer of 2002, scoring on his debut for Glenavon. After a brief spell with Ards the following season, O’Boyle returned to Scotland with Junior side, Bo’ness United.

Later he played with other Junior sides, Kelty Hearts and Carnoustie Panmure, where he was assistant-manager for a few years. In May 2016 he was appointed assistant head coach of Lisburn Distillery.
