Northern Ireland Players in the Scottish Premiership
The Scottish Professional Football League Premiership was formed in 2013 when the Scottish Premier League (SPL, founded 1998) "re-merged" with the Scottish Football League (founded 1890) to once again form a single governing body for senior league clubs in Scotland, the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL). All four divisions within the league structure were re-branded, with the Premiership as the top level with the Championship, League 1 and League 2 beneath.

Biography:
Conor Brennan made his senior football debut as a 15 year-old, in a 1-0 Mid-Ulster Cup semi-final defeat by Glenavon in March 2010. At the time he was also a pupil at St. Colmcille's High School in Crossgar, Northern Ireland Schoolboy's regular number one and a former member of the County Down Milk Cup squad. Early in the following season he joined Leicester City, but he was released after three seasons.
Brennan joined Kilmarnock in 2013, becoming Kenny Shiels' final signing before his sacking. He spent his first season at Rugby Park in the Under-20 squad, appearing on the bench for the firstteam for the first time in February 2014. From the start of the following campaign he was a match-day regular, making his debut in October in a 2-0 win over Dundee United, coming on as a half-time for Craig Samson who had suffered a broken toe.
Having played for Northern Ireland at every age-group level, Brennan won his first Under-21 cap in August 2013 against Denmark, in a friendly at his old home ground in Dungannon which resulted in a 1-4 defeat. However, when he was substituted at half-time the scoreline was 1-1.
In order to gain more experience Brennan was loaned to Scottish League one side Stranraer at the start of the 2015/16 season, but he was recalled early as Kilmarnock suffered a goalkeeping injury crisis. At the end of the 2015/16 season Brennan was released by Killie.

Biography:
A product of Ipswich Town's prolific youth set-up, Rory McKeown found himself released in the summer of 2011. He was promptly snapped-up by Kilmarnock manager, Kenny Shiels. McKeown marked his SPL debut with a goal in a 1-1 draw with Dundee United in July 2011. The following month he made his Northern Ireland Under-21 debut, adding to the Youth and Schoolboy caps he had already won.
McKeown was called up to the senior Northern Ireland squad as a late replacement for the matches against Portugal and Luxembourg in September 2013.
In February 2014 McKeown joined Cowdenbeath on an emergency one-month loan, and marked his debut with a goal in a 2-0 win over Dundee.

Biography:
Lee Hodson came through the ranks with his local club, Watford and made his debut as a substitute against Derby County on the final day of the 2008/09 season aged just 17. He established himself in the firstteam in the following campaign, earning praise for his consistency and making use of his strength, speed and reading of the game which allowed him to become an effective attacking force. Two-footed, he has played both in his favoured right-back role and at left-back for the Hornets.
Already a Youth international, Hodson was elevated to the Under-21 team while still just 17 years-old to make his debut in a Euro qualifier in the Czech Republic in September 2009. He is joined at Watford by fellow Northern Ireland Under-21s, Michael Bryan and Adam Thompson.
Hodson received his first senior call-up in November 2010 as a late replacement in the Northern Ireland squad to face Morocco. He played the full ninety minutes and acquitted himself well in a low-key 1-1 draw.
In July 2013, Hodson joined MK Dons on a free transfer. He soon fell out of the reckoning for both club and country, but a loan spell at Kilmarnock in the second half of the 2015/16 season appeared to re-invigorate him, and he was a surprise inclusion in Michael O'Neill's Euro 2016 finals squad.
Hodson joined Rangers on a three year deal ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Biography:
Josh Magennis claimed Northern Ireland Under-17 caps as a goalkeeper and featured on the bench for Cardiff before being converted to a forward. He made a handful of outfield appearances for the Bluebirds, earning a place in the Northern Ireland squad that traveled to the USA and Chile in the summer of 2010.
On his return from international duty, Magennis was released by Cardiff. He joined Aberdeen, but endured a difficult first season at Pittodrie and it seemed likely that he would again be released until Craig Brown decided to give him a run in the team at full-back late in the 2011/12 season. He remained with Aberdeen until 2014, earning a reputation as something of a jack-of-all-trades. For Northern Ireland he continued as a regular squad member, coming off the bench to add a bit of muscle in whatever position was required.
A 2014 move to Kilmarnock saw Magennis enjoy a sustained run in attack for the first time in his career, though he struggled to find the net on a regular basis, dividing opinion among fans. For Northern Ireland's successful Euro 2016 qualification campaign Michael O'Neill installed him as first choice back-up to Kyle Lafferty and he became a regular feature as a second-half substitute, with his presence notably aiding Northern Ireland to a late win over the Faroe Islands and an even later equaliser against Hungary in September 2015. The following month, with Kyle Lafferty suspended for the key qualifying match against Greece, Magennis started his first competitive match. His looping header that put Northern Ireland 2-0 up early in the second-half was greeted by emotional celebrations, essentially sealing the team's place in France and answering the critics who had questioned Magennis' place in the team.
2015/16 saw Magennis enjoy his best season in front of goal as he scored thirteen times for a struggling Kilmarnock side that only avoided relegation from the Premiership with a play-off victory over Falkirk. He traveled to Euro 2016 with the emergence of Conor Washington and the club-form of Will Grigg putting his position as first-choice back-up under threat. Magennis need not have worried as his unique attributes continued to be recognised as useful by Michael O'Neill.
Early in the 2016/17 season Magennis was the subject of several bids from English League One side Charlton and eventually a £250,000 fee was agreed.

Biography:
Son of former Northern Ireland Under-17 coach Kenny, Dean Shiels has come through considerable adversity to make it as a professional footballer.
A starlet of a the Northern Ireland Youth set-up, Shiels signed schoolboy forms with Arsenal in July 2001 and his first professional contract a year later. Unable to impress beyond the Gunners’ Under-19 side, Shiels left Highbury by mutual consent in June 2004.
Linked with a return to Northern Ireland with Linfield or Ballymena (then managed by his father), Shiels instead signed a three year deal with Scottish Premier side, Hibernian. That same summer he impressed with the Northern Ireland Under-19 side in the Milk Cup Elite competition, scoring twice in a famous win over Brazil. The goals showed the youngster as a potential ‘complete’ striker, the first a stunning strike from distance and the second a well placed low header.
After joining Hibs Shiels made good progress. On 18 August 2004 he made his Under-21 debut against Switzerland and six days later scored his first senior club goal as Hibs drew 4-4 with Dundee. A regular in his first campaign, he scored six goals in 43 appearances. In November 2005 Shiels made his senior Northern Ireland debut in a Gala Friendly against Portugal as the Irish FA continued its 125th Anniversary celebrations.
Just two months after his first senior international Sheils announced he would be under-going an operation to have his right eye removed. He had lost the sight in the eye after a childhood accident and, much to his credit, few knew of the handicap. Whilst the operation reduced his effectiveness during his second season, it only ruled him out of football for seven weeks and by the end of the season he was touring the USA with the Northern Ireland team.
Shiels was a key figure in Hibs side that reached the 2007 CIS Cup Final, including scoring a brace in a memorable 6-0 win over upstarts Gretna. Unfortunately injury forced him to miss the Final with Kilmarnock and so Shiels still awaits his first domestic honour.
With his contract due to expire at the end of the 2008/09 season, Shiels moved to Doncaster Rovers for a fee of around £50,000 on transfer deadline day, 2nd February 2009. In July 2011 he joined Kilmarnock, managed by his father, on a six month loan deal. The move was made permanent in January 2012 and yielded a surprise League Cup final success over Celtic. Shiels' contribution to Killie's successes has been recognised by his appearance on the short-list for the Scottish PFA Player of the Year.
Shiels signed for Rangers in July 2012 shortly after they were demoted to the bottom tier of the Scottish League following their financial melt-down. He has seldom been a regular starter in the four seasons it has taken Rangers to gain promotion to the Premiership and has subsequently dropped from the international reckoning despite appearing to be much-favoured during Michael O'Neill's earliest games as manager.
Shortly after Rangers' top-flight return was confirmed Shiels was released. Subsequently he signed for high-flying League of Ireland side, Dundalk. He made his Lilywhites' debut in a 1-0 win over Wexford in August 2016.
