  • Roy Carroll withdrew from the squad on the eve of the match due to an abdominal pain. It was the first competitive Northern Ireland match that he missed since the appointment of Michael O'Neill as manager. Consequently, Michael McGovern made his competitive international debut and goalkeeping-coach Maik Taylor was called into the playing squad at the age of 43.
  • Chris Brunt became the 33rd Northern Ireland player to reach the 50 cap landmark.
