Biography:
Kevin O'Flanagan was a multi-talented sportsman. He was capped at international level in football and rugby, was a Gaelic footballer for Dublin Minors, an Irish champion at athletics, a scratch golfer and an accomplished tennis player. His younger brother, Mick, was also a dual-code international having represented southern Ireland at football and Ireland at rugby.

O'Flanagan, already an Éire Junior international, made his international bow at the age of just eighteen as the FAI's Ireland side drew 3-3 against Norway in a must-win World Cup qualifier. A win would have sealed qualification for the 1938 World Cup Finals in France, though the youngster made do with a goal (according to some sources the team's 50th) having had another ruled out for off-side in the opening minutes. He remained a regular for the FAI team until after the War.

As a teenager O'Flanagan had combined his association and Gaelic football codes with some success, that is until is daliances with the "foreign game" were discovered and the GAA issued him with the mandatory life-ban. It wasn't until he was studying medicine at University College, Dublin that he first tried his hand at rugby and he proved a natural, first earning selection for Leinster in 1940 and for an Ireland XV that faced the Army at Ravenhill two years later. In parallel with his successes in team sports he was a four-time Irish long-jump champion and Irish sprint champion at 60 and 100 metres.

O'Flanagan rose to captain the all-amateur Bohemians club and in 1945 his goalscoring, and that of brother Mick, fired the club to an FAI Cup Final appearance against Shamrock Rovers and a Intercity Cup Final win over Belfast Celtic. O'Flanagan did blot his copy book against Celtic as he was sent-off.

In 1945, after completing his studies, O'Flanagan took a medical post in Middlesex. He signed amateur forms with Arsenal, turning down a professional deal so that he could continue playing rugby. He scored on his Gunners debut in a 6-2 Football League South defeat by Charlton in October 1945 and finished the last War-Time season as the club's topscorer with eleven goals, mainly from the wing. He was also honoured by the IFA for the first time with selection for the Victory Internationals against Scotland and Wales.

Nicknamed "The Flying Doctor", with the oval ball O'Flanagan was turning out with London Irish and played for an Ireland XV against France on 26 January 1946 in an unofficial international. Two weeks later he missed out on an appearance against England at Lansdowne Road in the Five Nations as he was fog-bound in London.

O'Flanagan made his Football League-proper debut against Blackburn in a 3-1 defeat in September 1946 but played just fourteen times in that first post-War season due to work and, to a lesser extent, rugby commitments. In December 1947 he lined out for Ireland in a test match against a touring Australia side for his only full rugby cap.

Although he remained on the books at Highbury until 1949, O'Flanagan made no further appearances for Arsenal. He did play non-league football with Corinthian Casuals and Barnet, earning a first Amateur Ireland cap as centre-forward against England in February 1949. During the 1949/50 season he played with Brentford, and won a second Amateur cap, scoring a second half consolation from outside-right, before his playing career was ended by an ankle injury.

In 1948 O'Flanagan, who would have likely appeared at the Olympics of 1940 and 1944 had they not been cancelled due to the Second World War, was appointed to the British Olympic Medical Committee and so began a five decade association with the Olympic movement. With his own sporting days behind him, O'Flanagan became an acknowledge sports injury expert, worked with the Irish Olympic team and in 1976 was appointed to the International Olympic Committee.

Biography:
Gerard McMahon came to prominence with Glenavon in the early nineties with his explosive change of pace and accurate finish which earned him a dream move from Mourneview Park to White Hart Lane in 1992.

McMahon had started with Glenavon as a 14 year old, helping the Lurgan club to the Youth League Championship in 1991/92. He had only broken into the Glenavon first team in the second half of the 1991/92 season, making his Irish League debut against Newry in February 1992, and established himself in the side for the rest of the season. It was his performance in the 4-0 Bass Irish Cup sixth round replay win against Glentoran that saw scouts from some of England’s biggest clubs inquiring about him, and by the middle of March a transfer had been agreed with Tottenham Hotspur.

With the transfer business out of the way, McMahon was free to concentrate on Glenavon’s bid for the Irish Cup. Despite being without Glenn Ferguson and Stephen McBride through injury, Glenavon comfortably cruised to the final and, in a fairytale game, McMahon scored the free-kick which defeated Linfield 2-1.

When Gerard moved to London for £100,000 in the summer of 1992 it took him quite a while to settle, with the departure of Terry Venables, and the arrival of Ossie Ardiles. However, he persevered and was eventually rewarded when his long-awaited first-team chance came at the end of the 1994-95 season. McMahon’s Spurs debut came in May 1995, and he was a regular in the first-team squad throughout the following season, without really establishing himself in the starting eleven.

In May 1995 he won the first of his seventeen caps when he played for Northern Ireland against Canada in Edmonton.

McMahon found his first-team opportunities at White Hart Lane limited and so, in September 1996, he stepped down a division in order to further his career. The Stoke manager, Lou Macari paid £450,000 for his signature, and made McMahon a regular in the starting eleven, but with Brian Little replacing Macari in the summer of 1997 it seemed that McMahon didn’t belong in Stoke’s first-team plans either.

In February 1998 St Johnstone signed McMahon from Stoke for £85,000. At McDiarmid Park he linked up with fellow Northern Ireland players Danny Griffin and George O’Boyle. Again however McMahon found himself out of the first-team following a change of manager, with Paul Sturrock leaving St Johnstone in 1999, and in the summer of 2000, when his contract expired, McMahon was allowed to leave.

After trials with Notts County and Macclesfield, McMahon returned to Glenavon in August 2000, initially on a short term contract, but after a month Colin Malone convinced him to sign a permanent deal. It proved a productive move as the Lurgan Blues finished as Irish League runners-up. McMahon, always honest about his ambitions to move back across the water and regain his international place, was appointed club captain for the 2001/02 season. A leg break picked up in December 2002 ruled him out of football for a year-and-a-half. In his absence, Glenavon really struggled, and despite his appointment as assistant-manager, they were relegated to the Irish League Intermediate Division One at the end of the 2003/04 season.

McMahon returned to fitness, helping Glenavon regain their Premier League position as play-off winners in 2005, and subsequently consolidate their top-flight position the following seasons. 2008/09 was McMahon's testimonial season and marked his final campaign as a Glenavon player. On his retirement he was widely lauded as among the finest Irish League players of his generation. He remained at Mourneview as reserve team manager until October 2012 when he became assistant manager at Loughgall. With Loughgall he made a return to the playing field. He left Lakeview following a managerial shake-up mid-way through the 2013/14 season.

He then had a spell in charge of Dromara Village before being appointed manager at Lurgan Celtic in May 2018.

Biography:
A tough-tackling midfielder, also capable at right-back, Mark Hughes came through the ranks at Tottenham and was a regular in the Northern Ireland at various youth levels. After a brief loan spell with Nortmapton he impressed while on a temporary deal at Oldham where the deal became permanent. Established as a regular at Boundary Park, Lawrie Sanchez included Hughes in the young Northern Ireland squad for the USA tour in 2006. He played in both matches, coming on as a substitute against Uruguay and Romania.
..
Shortly after his return from the US, Hughes, having fallen out of favour, secured an early release from his contract at Oldham. Initially signed by Conference South club, Thurrock, he returned to the Football League on an emergency two month loan with Chesterfield in November. Although he scored on his Spireites debut against Gillingham, he was unable to convince boss Roy McFarland to offer him a permanent deal and he returned to Thurrock.
..
Hughes signed for Stevenage Borough in January 2007, but was released the following May. He returned to the Football League for the 2007/08 season with Chester City and in February 2009 he was released to join Barnet. For the Bees he played under Lawrie Sanchez during the 2011/12 season as captain and scored the goal that secured their League status on the closing day of the season against Burton.

Hughes was released when his contract expired in the summer of 2012. He joined non-league Eastleigh. He was then captain at Chelmsford until his release in June 2016.
