Ards

Biography:
One of the Lowry clan that also included B international Tommy, Hugh was a prolific goalscorer from inside-left. His goals initially brought a degree of respectability to Bangor before firing Ards to the Irish League title. He scored 30 goals as the Gibson Cup arrived at Castlereagh Park for the first time. The following season he became the first Irish League player to score in European competition as Ards lost 4-1 to French giants, Rheims in the Champions' Cup.

Invited to move to England by several clubs, including Liverpool, Huddersfield and Bristol City, in the days of the maximum wage it more sense for Lowry to remain a part-time player alongside a steady job. He was forced to quit playing at the age of 26 after tearing his right knee ligaments against Portadown.

Biography:
David Morgan joined Nottingham Forest as a fourteen year-old and progressed through their youth ranks. He was still just seventeen when called into the Northern Ireland Under-21 squad for the first time in May 2012, and he made his debut against England that November. By that stage he had already gained firstteam experience while on loan at Conference side, Lincoln City. That season he also spent time on loan with Dundee, playing his only SPL game as a substitute in a 5-0 defeat by Celtic.

Another loan spell in 2013/14 saw Morgan back in the Conference with Tamworth, however on his return to Forest he found himself surplus to requirements. He had grown frustrated at the managerial roundabout at the City Ground which saw ten different men (including "caretakers") in the hot seat During Morgan's six year association with the club, meaning that he was unable to make his mark, particularly with the repeated spells out on loan.

Morgan didn't move far from Nottingham after his release, joining up with Kevin Wilson's Ilkeston in August 2014. The following summer Morgan followed Wilson to Nuneaton Town.

Biography:
A Shore Road lad, Alex Connell was a clever player "who can play with his head as well as with his feet" and was capable as either a right or left half-back, positions he regularly fulfilled both at club and international level.

As a teenager Connell helped 53rd Old Boys to runners-up spot in the Amateur League in the 1927/28 season. He then played a single game for Brantwood at the start of the following season before joining Larne Olympic where he played regularly through to September 1929 when he was truck down by a serious illness. Advised to quit the game altogether, Connell "had the taste" for the game, and by Christmas was back and "treading the turf" with Ballycarry. His form recovered, he was persuaded back to Larne and towards the end of the 1929/30 season he was introduced to senior football and in the following campaign he "rarely had a Saturday off."

After becoming unsettled at Larne, Connell took his enthusiasm to Ards. At Castlereagh Park he started out in his favoured right-half position, but after a few games moved over to the other side with immediate success. He "gave entire satisfaction" to the Ards management and supporters, and was not once absent from the team throughout the campaign. Already a "successful career" was being predicted for Connell, but it was not until he had joined Glenavon that he claimed his first major representative honours, playing three time for Amateur Ireland while on the books at Mourneview. He retained his place in the amateur international set-up while with Ballymena United, taking his cap total to six.
