Biography:
When New York Red Bulls' midfielder Jonny Steele was called into the Northern Ireland squad in November 2013 he became the first ever MLS-based player to receive such an honour. Indeed, no player featuring with a US club had been called-up since the days of the NASL, three decades earlier.

Formerly a Wolves Academy player, Steele initially moved to the USA for a trial with Colin Clarke's Dallas Burn in 2003. He spent close to a decade, a short spell back home with Ballymena aside, plying his trade at various levels in North American soccer before finally arriving in the top-tier MLS with Real Salt Lake in 2012. He was released by RSL after a single season and looked likely to move closer to home, training with Cliftonville and coming close to a deal with an unidentified English League Two side.

Steele remained in the USA to sign for MLS power-houses, New York Red Bulls where he played alongside former English Premier League stars, Thierry Henry and Tim Cahill. In his first season he assisted the team to Eastern Conference championship and, as the MLS team with the overall best regular season record, to the Supporters' Shield. In all he scored five goals, mostly while playing as a left-sided mifielder. Surprisingly the Red Bulls lost out to Houston Dynamo in the play-offs.

A member of the Northern Ireland Under-19 side that played in the 2005 European Championship finals as hosts, Steele also featured as the team finished as runners-up in that years' Milk Cup, scoring in a 4-2 final defeat by the USA. His form in the MLS throughout the 2013 season had seen him tipped for a call-up to the senior Northern Ireland squad, but it was only after the Red Bulls' exit from the play-offs that Michael O'Neill was willing to include him in the squad to face Turkey in a November friendly.

On his first international call-up Steele noted: "Playing for your country is an honour and it's something I've always wanted to do and if I get that opportunity, I'm going to be hungrier than I've ever been."

Having added further caps to his name during Northern Ireland's 2014 summer tour of South America, Steele was on the move again in July 2014, moving to play in Australia with Newcastle Jets.

Biography:
To follow.

Courtesy of ForzaGlens
Goalkeeper Cecil Moore made his debut in the 1945-46 season, aged 19 and made a total of 23 appearances that term. The following year he played just 11 times but one of those games was a crushing 9-0 defeat to Belfast Celtic, a result that equaled Glentoran Football Club’s worst ever defeat! The next couple of years saw Cecil become the regular keeper and he played alongside such Northern Ireland legends as Blanchflower, Bingham and Peacock during their time with the Glens.
In 1949 Cecil Moore played in the Irish Cup final against Derry City, a game that the Glens lost 3-1. He was also on the losing side later that year as Glentoran went ‘Back to the Oval’ but the following year was to be one of success for both Moore and the club. Despite losing the Gold Cup final to the old enemy the Glens were crowned League Champions for the first time in 20 years. They also picked up the Ulster Cup, City Cup and the Irish Cup - beating Ballymena Utd 3-1 in the final. Cecil Moore played 50 games in goal that season, bringing his total appearances to 181. He was awarded a benefit game in May 1952 with Glentoran drawing 1-1 with Luton Town. Cecil Moore was capped in 1949. The game, played on 9th March, was against Wales and was played at Windsor Park. Moore was beaten twice (by Edwards & Ford) as the visitors won 2-0.
Cecil Moore moved to America in the early-1950s. In June 1953 when the USA faced England in New York the Daily Express reported: "The label "America" looks strange for the U.S. team with such performers as Terry Springthorpe (Wolves), Cecil Moore (Glenavon [sic]), Roy Milner [sic] (Glasgow Celtic), and a nicely varied forward line of America, Germany, Greece, Scotland, and Peru." So it seems likely that Moore joined the ranks of Ireland's dual internationals.

Biography:
Pat Robinson came to prominence in the Irish League’s first post-Great War season. He was signed by Distillery from Cliftonville and made an immediate impact at Grosvenor Park from the right-wing or inside-right position. In an excellent season with the Whites he won the Gold Cup (scoring in the 3-1 final win over Shelbourne) and the Co. Antrim Shield. The club also finished as runners-up in the League, three points behind champions Belfast Celtic, and in the Charities Cup, where they again lost to Celtic.

In his only season with Distillery, Robinson also played for the Irish League, in a 2-2 draw against the Football League at Anfield, and won the first of two Ireland caps, in a 3-0 defeat by Scotland in Glasgow. Transferred to Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 1920, it was while at Ewood Park that Robinson won his second and final cap. Again it was a disappointing performance and result for the Irish as they lost out 2-1 to Wales in Swansea.

Later Robinson would play for Caerphilly in their aborted season in the Welsh Section of the Southern League. He later returned to the Irish League with Linfield and Newry before setting out to try his luck in the fledgling American Soccer League with Brooklyn Wanderers.
