A good customer (Mr Hesmondalgh) who had a grocery in Clitheroe and ran a junior team in the town had difficulty finding a well known footballer to present cup medals. I suggested he contacted Burnley, about 25 miles away and ask Jimmy McIlroy. On returning a month later he told me he had taken my advice and as a result Jimmy agreed to do the honours. We beat Scotland 3-2 and the winning goal was scored with an overhead kick by Willie Irvine. It was into the Kop end and i was squeezed against the wall at the bottom of the terracing below the Gallaghers sign.
