Notes:
- Three players have been sent-off twice while playing for Northern Ireland - George Best, Keith Gillespie and James Quinn.
- Two Northern Ireland players have been sent-off in the same match on three occasions; Quinn & Gillespie (v. Greece, 2003), Hughes & Healy (v. Wales, 2004) and Brunt & Lafferty (v. Portugal, 2013). Against Wales and Portugal the opposition also had a player sent-off.
- Ryan McGivern received a red card on his début, the only Northern Ireland player to do so.
- McGivern is also the youngest player to have been sent-off while playing for Northern Ireland at the age of 18 years and 224 days. When Adam Thompson was sent-off playing against the Republic of Ireland he was just 13 days older.
- Northern Ireland have only won twice in the 23 matches in which they have had men sent-off.
